How to Make a Headband.
How to make a fabric hat band. You can see that I trimmed the elastic down to an inch. Now you can make a hat band or two. The one-size pattern should fit like a smallmedium but you can enlarge or reduce it on a copier.
Its usually tacked in place with a few stitches or in the case of a cheap hat some adhesive is used. Flip the hat band over to the wrong side and fold in the corners of the seam allowances so that they look like little triangles. The oval shape headband is 125 inches on the ends and 25 inches in the middle.
Cut five narrow strips from the bottom of a t-shirt. Tack them in place with a few hand stitches making sure that the stitches dont show on the right side. To secure the center gathering I stitched through the gathers to make sure they would stay in place.
I have several like the red one above which came off beater hat or which were just plain ugly and so I wont likely be using them. As I look at them it appears to me that its done with folds only and held together with the hooks on either end. Cut off the bottom hem first then cut the shirt into five 1-inch 254-centimeter wide horizontal bands.
Once you have the length you need remove the band from the vice. Continue adding strips of fabric until you have the length of your hatband plus 3 75 cm. Cut the bands apart apart at one of the side seams to make five strips.
The back of the hatband looks like this. Fold both rectangles over lengthwise. The cut one rectangle that measures 16 inches by 13 inches and one rectangle that measures 14 inches by 4 inches.
